How does it Work?

Pressure sand filters are commonly preferred for removing suspended solids and turbidity from water and wastewater. In their design, the emphasis is on providing efficient and reliable product quality at low costs to filter water. Pressure sand filters are constructed to make the most efficient use of surface area, resulting in lower pressure drop in the filter bed and effectively removing suspended solids.

Pressure sand filters are designed both vertically and horizontally and are customized based on the required capacity. They can be operated either automatically or manually. These filters are used to remove suspended solids in wastewater and clean water treatment facilities. Depending on the application, they can be designed with manual or automatic controls. The filter body, made of carbon steel with a suitable thickness according to the operating pressure, is coated with epoxy or can be made of stainless steel as per customer preferences and application requirements. Properly selected piping, bed, and base plate reduce hydraulic losses.

Pressure sand filters can be produced as single or tandem types according to the intended use. The filter body, made of carbon steel with a thickness suitable for the operating pressure, can be coated with epoxy or, if needed, can be hot-dip galvanized or made of stainless steel. Different types of pressure sand filters are available. So, what is the working principle of a pressure sand filter?

Working Principle of a Pressure Sand Filter

Water is passed through the pressure sand filter. Fine quartz sand is gradually supported by coarser gravel and pebbles. During the filtration process, the filter bed traps impurities and suspended particles present in the water. These particles accumulate within the filter bed. Clean water can be discharged from the filter outlet with a pressure of 1 or 2 bars.

Advantages of a Pressure Sand Filter

The advantages of a pressure sand filter are as follows:
